Journal Entry- David’s Mighty Men
Monday, March 2, 1992
2 Sam 23:8-23
1. ADINO- “he lifted up his SPEAR against 800, whom he slew at one time.”
2. ELEAZAR- “…the Philistines were gathered for battle, and the men of Israel were gone away;
he AROSE and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary and his had adhered to the sword…”
“…and the LORD wrought a great victory…”
3. SHAMMAH- “…and the people fled from the Philistines BUT HE STOOD in the center of the plot,
and defended it, and slew the Philistines, and the LORD wrought a great victory.”
In each case – all the others had fled
– they stood and fought
– THE LORD WROUGHT A GREAT VICTORY
Why were they great men? Could it be that they KNEW and BELIEVED the PROMISE OF GOD?
For He had said,
Ex 14:14- “THE LORD SHALL FIGHT FOR YOU…”
15:3- “THE LORD IS A MAN OF WAR…”
Dt 1:35- “THE LORD YOUR GOD, WHO GOETH BEFORE YOU, HE SHALL FIGHT
FOR YOU- according to all that he did in Egypt before your eyes.”
3:22- “…FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD SHALL FIGHT FOR YOU.”
20:1-4- “When thou goest out to battle against these enemies…a people MORE THEN
THOU, BE NOT AFRAID OF THEM; FOR THE LORD THY GOD IS WITH
THEE, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt… …Let not your hearts faint, FEAR NOT,
and DO NOT TREMBLE, NEITHER BE TERRIFIED because of them,
for THE LORD YOUR GOD IS HE WHO GOETH WITH YOU, TO FIGHT FOR YOU,
against your enemies, to save you.”
Josh 1:5- “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee…I WILL NOT FAIL
THEE, NOR FORSAKE THEE.”
15:25- “…for THUS SHALL THE LORD DO to all your enemies against whom you fight.”
10:42- “…because THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL FOUGHT FOR ISRAEL.”
23:42- “…for THE LORD YOUR GOD, HE IT IS WHO
